    Peter Burgess

    Head of Policy, Technical & Educational Services, AMP SMSF Peter Burgess is Head of Policy, Technical & Education at AMP SMSF. Peter is responsible for AMP’s SMSF policy development and the delivery of education and technical support services to AMP clients. Prior to joining AMP, Peter was the National Technical Director for the SMSF Association (formally known as SPAA) and a previous SMSF Association board member. Peter has a strong reputation as an authority in SMSF policy and technical support. He is an adjunct lecturer with the University of Adelaide and is a widely published author and media commentator on SMSFs. In 2014, Peter was recognised as one of the top 50 most influential social media users in finance by Financial Standard magazine.

    Executive Director, Financial Services, Ernst & Young Matina has over 28 years experience in audit, with the last 26 specialising in audit and accounting for superannuation funds. Matina has extensive experience in auditing superannuation funds, providing assurance advisory services, corporate governance reviews, and special purpose reviews for superannuation trustees. Matina is a registered SMSF auditor. Within the Superannuation Industry, she has been:

    • Chair of the ASFA NSW Accountants Discussion Group
    • Member of the ASFA SMSF Standing Advisory Panel and ASFA Retirement Outcomes Standing Advisory Panel.

    BA LLB FAICD FCLA AFPA, Principal, Townsends Business & Corporate Lawyers Peter Townsend is a business lawyer with over 35 years’ experience in providing legal advice to business owners and operators, including over 25 years’ experience in advising participants in the financial planning and superannuation industries. He is the Principal of Townsends Business & Corporate Lawyers and Managing Director of SUPERCentral Pty Ltd – a document provider to self-managed superannuation funds. Peter is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and a Fellow of the Commercial Law Association.  He was a founding member of the International Association for Financial Planning in Australia and helped to design and create the Financial Planning Association of Australia, of which he is an Associate Member. Peter’s firm focusses on advice and documentation for self-managed superannuation and estate planning and in addition provides a one-stop shop for businesses in respect of all the legal issues that arise in running that business including implementation of legal strategies, assistance with commercial negotiation and document preparation and analysis.

    BA, LLB, Grad Dip Leg Prac, LLM (Leg Prac), SSATM, Senior Legal Counsel, Perpetual Private Caroline is Senior Legal Counsel with Perpetual Private’s Trustee Services & Operations division. Admitted to practice in 2008, she has become a regular presenter on superannuation and estate planning for the financial services industry.  Caroline has written for various publications in relation to compliance for Self Managed Superannuation Funds (SMSFs). She has also worked with the NSW Law Society and The College of Law to run educational programs for the legal profession on issues relating to superannuation and SMSFs. Caroline is recognised as a Self Managed Superannuation Fund Specialist Advisor by the SMSF Association. Active in both the superannuation and SMSF sectors, Perpetual offer trustee services for Small Apra Funds as well as SMSF administration. The Perpetual Alliance Partner Program provides assistance to Accountants who are looking to obtain their own Limited AFSL in response to the removal of the Accountants’ exemption in July 2016.

    Peter Hogan joined MLC Technical Services as a Senior Technical Manager in 2010. He is a visiting lecturer at Adelaide University’s International Centre for Financial Services and until recently was a 10 year National Board Member of the Self Managed Superannuation Fund Professionals Association of Australia (SPAA). For the six years prior to joining MLC, Peter worked in his own business as a specialist SMSF adviser. Prior to this, he was Head of Technical Services at Colonial First State Investments for seven years and held the same role at Macquarie Bank for five years. Peter holds a Bachelor of Laws from Sydney University, a Diploma of Financial Planning from Deakin University and is accredited as a Specialist Superannuation Adviser by SPAA.

    Director, Self Managed Super Funds, Income Tax and Regulatory Risk Mitigation, ATO With the ATO since 1996, Nathan has undertaken a range of roles across income tax and superannuation, including implementation of super reforms. Along with his fellow directors Nathan oversees the administration and regulation of SMSFs. As the ATO’s SMSF risk manager, Nathan is currently responsible for identifying and mitigating SMSF regulatory and income tax risks. This includes developing compliance programs, involvement in settlements and prosecutions and implementing legislative changes. Nathan developed the Super Fund Lookup website to facilitate more efficient rollovers and contributions and created the SMSF annual return.
